Reiki is a healing art that originated in Japan with Doctor Usui. He received the Reiki healing symbols in a meditative state and was guided to teach these symbols to others. He taught the Art of Reiki to only a handful of practitioners who each took the symbols and methods of healing and taught others.
Nowadays Reiki is practiced all over the World. It is a gentle form of healing that utilises either the lay on of hands upon specific areas of the body, or imparts healing through the aura and chakra system. This is done through the use of the Reiki symbols, each corresponding to a different kind of energy. These energies are commonly known as emotional, mental, physical and spiritual, and blocks in these areas are cleared through the use of Reiki healing.
Reiki opens the receiver to healing energy, this healing energy is absorbed and automatically goes to the areas that most need it, and where it would benefit the receiver the most. What Reiki does most of all is to impart a feeling of relaxation and peace to the receiver so that they are more open to allowing healing in the areas that need to be healed. In this way the Reiki practitioner is not a healer as such, but a facilitator of healing for another person, animal, plant and even situation.
Reiki is a Universal energy, it has been known by metaphysicians for centuries and is what many call spiritual healing, hands on healing, chakra healing and so forth. A Reiki session takes around 45 minutes to an hour. There is consultation where background information is taken. Then the client is asked to sit, or lie down, whilst the Reiki healer transmits the Reiki to them.
All the client needs to do is relax! What happens for many people is that they fall into a deep state of relaxation, some find they actually fall asleep. Other people may feel heat coming from the practitoners hands, or cold, or even a tingling feeling like pins and needles. Whatever happens is individual and what is most required at the time. There is no right or wrong, which is another beauty of Reiki. Reiki follows no religious doctrine and is practiced by people of different religions. It is entirely safe and can only bring benefit to the person receiving it.
